JAMMU: The health department, in the wake of gradual spike in COVID19 cases, has re-deployed officials, doctors and other paramedical staff from periphery hospitals at DRDO hospital Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu district.
DRDO hospital was established especially to treat COVID19 positive patients after the hospitals were overburdened during the second wave. These doctors and paramedical staff members were sent back to the hospitals and other medical facilities from where they were drawn, following a decline in COVID19 cases in Jammu. However, with a gradual spike in cases during the last few weeks, the authorities have decided to re-deploy the staff members, said a senior official in the health department dealing with the COVID situation. The official said that they also installed a CT-Scan machine in the COVID hospital established by DRDO and its trial run would start from today. “By the first week of December, the CT-Scan machine will be available for patients,” he said, and added that they had ample availability of oxygen in the hospital.
He said, “We are well prepared for COVID19 cases. The DRDO hospital in Jammu has 500 oxygen beds including 120 ICU beds.” He maintained, “If people come at an early stage of infection in the hospital, their survival chances are more.” He, however, asked the people to avoid gathering and public places without face masks. Earlier, it was claimed by the officials in the health department that the Deputy Medical Superintendents, most of the doctors and many paramedical staff members deployed from periphery areas were repatriated from DRDO Bhagwati Nagar as their work was suffering. “From today, they will be re-deployed as the cases are increasing again,” the official added. Meanwhile, another official said that over 200 paramedical students were ready to serve in different COVID19 hospitals in Jammu.
“Their 21-day training is almost complete and they will be deployed in different COVID hospitals to assist the staff members for smooth functioning of the hospitals,” the official added. Earlier, the hospital authorities had reviewed the situation and alerted the hospitals in handling the situation in case of spike in COVID19 cases in Jammu district.
