On Tuesday, a bicycle repair shop in Gandhi Nagar’s Rani Talab, Digyana area exploded while filling LPG and caught fire. The fire spread rapidly, and it engulfed two shops (a shop making aluminium doors and windows and glasses shop) along with a cycle repair shop and a Jalebi stall.

After getting the information, four Fire and Emergency Service reached the spot; after an arduous effort, they doused the fire, but all three shops were burnt to ashes. According to the information, this accident happened around 7 pm. According to the people present at the spot, a cycle repair shop in Rani Talab was illegally filling gas from large cylinders of LPG to smaller cylinders. During this, a cylinder caught fire. After the fire, the people present in the shop fled, leaving the burning cylinder in the shop itself.

The fire spread rapidly due to the fire in the gas cylinder. The roof of the shop was covered with wood and tin. Apart from this, junk was also lying inside the shop. As soon as the fire started in the junk, it flared up and engulfed the wood in the roof. After that, within a few moments, the fire spread to two shops built along with the cycle repair shop. Both the shops were open at the time of the accident. The people present in them saved their lives by running away from the shops. A case of fire has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station.

What caused the fire is being investigated. Eight gas cylinders were in the shop. The fire brigade personnel have recovered eight cylinders, four big and four small cylinders from the cycle repair shop in the Digyana area where the fire broke out. All these cylinders caught fire. Thankfully none of the cylinders burst; otherwise, there could have been a lot of damage. A major accident was averted due to the intelligence of the fire brigade personnel.

Water and foam were also used to extinguish the fire; after knowing about cylinders inside the shop where the fire broke out, the Fire and Emergency Service also used foam and water to control the fire. A fire in a highly flammable substance with foam can be put out quickly.
