JAMMU: J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Ad-hoc Committee of J&K Fencing Association organized day and night goodwill Fencing competition at Indoor Fencing Hall, MA Stadium, here today under the supervision of Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu.
Rakesh Dubey, KAS officer was the chief guest of the event who inaugurated the championship, whereas Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council was the guest of honour and Dr Zafar Iqbal was the special guest on the occasion. Rashid Ahmed, convener Ad-hoc Committee briefed the dignitaries about the game of fencing and its growing popularity among the general masses and expressed his gratitude to the Council for granting State Centre of Excellence of Fencing at MA Stadium, here. In Sabre women category, Shreya Gupta beat Ananya by 10-4 points, whereas in Epee boys Sivansh Kapoor trounced Sawan Magotra by 5-3 and in Sabre boys Udaiveer trounced Lakshya by 5-2, besides in Epee women Twinkle won the bout by 4-1 from Gyan Kour, while in Foil men, Tanish defeated Aadhar by 6-4 and Shriya trounced Shriya by 5-1 in Foil women category.
The matches were officiated by Maninder Pal Singh, Varun Slathia, Javed Ahmed and Teja Singh, International Fencers under the supervision of Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal, coaches of the Council. Satish Gupta, Manager Indoor Stadium, Saktish Chopra, Manager Outdoor Stadium, Satpal Singh Football coach and Ajay Gupta, Kabaddi were present during the event. Meanwhile, two members from Ad-hoc committee of Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association have tendered resignation to the Fencing Association of India (FAI). The members who have resigned are Rachna Jamwal (Fencing Coach-J&K Sports Council) and Bhanu Vijay Sharma (Businessman). The remaining three members of the committee are Rashid Choudhary (Inspector-J&K Police) as its convener, Shotu Lal Sharma (Instructor-J&K Sports Council) and Maninder Pal Singh (Government Employee).
They submitted their resignations on July 20 and July 25 respectively to the president of Fencing Association of India (FAI), Rajeev Mehta, secretary general, Bashir Ahmed Khan and treasurer, Ashok Dudhare.
It is pertinent to mention here that the FAI as per its order in the month of February this year, FAI 2020-21/428 constituted five-member Adhoc-committee after the demise of Vijay Sharma, general secretary, J&K Amateur Fencing Association to run the affairs.
