JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer today visited General Bus Stand Jammu and listened to grievances of Shopkeepers there.
The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Vice Chairman, JDA, RTO Jammu, SP North, Additional SP Traffic, ADC Jammu and other concerned officers while President Jammu Chamber of Commerce along with other members were also present on the occasion. The Div Com took a round of the newly constructed Multi level JDA Parking cum shopping complex; which was dedicated to the public in February 2021 and inspected the facilities there. He inspected each parking floor, shops, waiting halls, ticket counters and other facilities of the bus stand. The Divisional Commissioner also listened to the issues of shopkeepers/stakeholders. The newly rehabilitated 53 Shopkeepers demanded early start of all the counters in the new JDA parking to improve their business with the increased footfall.
They also demanded that the parking rates be revised and reduced from Rs 3000 per month to Rs 1500 per month. Meanwhile, the Div Com also took a round of the old bus stand and listened to the grievances of the shopkeepers. The Div Com assured the shopkeepers, stakeholders that all their genuine demands would be considered and redressed on priority. He also issued instructions to the VC JDA to devise a plan to reduce the parking rates for local shopkeepers & issue monthly passes. VC JDA was told to issue fresh auction notice for the remaining shops in the facility which were not taken by bidders in the first instance. He also asked the Additional CEO Jammu Smart City to initiate the bidding process for the start of e-rickshaw services from this parking facility to the market areas in old city.
The Div Com directed the district administration to hold joint meeting along with RTO Jammu, SSP Traffic and all stakeholders/bus-taxi operators for shifting of bus counters and make the JDA parking/Bus Stand functional at the earliest. The Div Com also instructed the concerned officers to install signages, boards, directions to the shops, and highlight names of shops so that people do not face any inconvenience. SP North and SP Traffic were told to ensure strict enforcement and ensure that vehicles are not wrongfully parked on the roads.
The Divisional Commissioner said that this multilevel parking with capacity of approx 1350 vehicles will lead to decongestion of the city area and we all need to ensure optimal utilisation of this mega asset.
