33 crore released for payment of salaries of 630 teachers

Kulgam : The government Wednesday released salary of a teacher whose son committed suicide five days ago due to financial constraints in the family.

An official said that Director School Education Kashmir Tassaduq Hussain Mir Wednesday released Rs 33 crore to Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of Kashmir for payment of withheld salary of 630 teachers.

He said, among them was the father of Kulgam youth Sohaib Mir, a B. Tech. graduate who consumed some poisonous substance on May 28 and later died in the hospital.

“The salary of these teachers was pending due to deficiency of documents and pending verification,” the official said.

In the video shot by the boy before committing suicide, he is heard as saying that he was forced to take this extreme step due to financial crisis in his family following non-payment of salary of his father for last over two years.

He had also said that he was sacrificing his life for all the teachers whose salaries had been withheld like his father for the past over two years.

An order issued by the Directorate of Education reads: “ Sanction is hereby accorded to the release of funds to the tune of Rs 33 crore under salary component of SAMAGRA to the CEOs of Kashmir division. The funds should strictly be utilised for drawl of pending salaries of un-transited RRETs and un-regularised RETs.”
