SRINAGAR: Shawwal moon has been sighted last evening marking the end of Holy fasting month of Ramadhan and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir today with no congregational prayers due to COVID-19.
The moon has been sighted this evening marking the end of month of Ramadhan and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across J&K on Thursday. This will be the second time that people here will be celebrating Eid amid COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed 2912 lives and infected over 229407 people so far.
There will be no congregational Eid prayers across Kashmir on Thursday as both Government and Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Jammu and Kashmir, the amalgam of various religious organization in Kashmir, headed by Mirwaiz Omar Farooq has asked people to stay away from religious gatherings on the auspicious occasions of and Eid-ul-Fitr, due to COVID-19.
The major Eid congregations are normally held at Eidgah in Srinagar, Hazratbal and other major Masjids across Kashmir valley.
