DISPUR: Hitting out at the Congress party for its unsubstantiated allegation that BJP is tampering with Electronic Voting Machines(EVM), Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today said that Congress is speaking the “language of defeat”.

Addressing a series of public meetings in support of the BJP candidate Atul Bora in Dispur constituency of Guwahati district and later responding to media queries, Dr. Jitendra Singh  said, whenever the BJP is faced with imminent defeat, it takes refuge in the alibi of malfunctioning or tampering of EVMs. Replying to a question about the Congress Party allegation that an EVM in the Karimganj constituency of Assam was found being carried away in the vehicle of a BJP MLA, he said, the charge has been thoroughly probed by the Election Commission of India and the report has been put in  public domain, after which there is nothing left for further clarification.

When asked about the stand of BJP, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, Election Commission of India is a Constitutional Body and for a disciplined political party like us, the verdict of Election Commission is above all and it is not within the propriety to make any comment after that.   If the Congress leaders are making unwarranted comments after the Election Commission has given a decision, they are only betraying their lack of faith and respect for the independence of Constitutional Bodies and this has been a long time practice of the Congress that they interfere with the working of Constitutional bodies.

Making a dig at the Congress and its allies, Dr. Jitendra Singh  said, just wait a little while more and as the election proceeds further, there is one more allegation going to be made by the Congress Party against the BJP and that allegation will be that all the voters were pressing the Hand symbol button of Congress party but the BJP had manipulated the EVMs and programmed these in such a manner that every button of the Hand symbol pressed for Congress went to add votes in the Lotus symbol of BJP.   He said, when the results are out on 2nd May and BJP gets decisive victory for the second time consecutively, Congress will take refuge in the argument that the EVMs had been manipulated only to register the BJP votes and not Congress votes, but the people of this country, particularly the youth voters who are in majority, are no longer convinced by such self-righteous arguments, he added.

It is now a known practice for the Congress Party, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, that whenever they win, the EVMs are OK for them but when they lose they suddenly find fault with the EVM.   He said, the Congress leadership’s memory is too short to recall that the Electronic Voting Machines’ option in voting was introduced during the then Congress government itself, in the best interest of transparency, secrecy and time saving.

It is a matter of shame, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, that when the election bodies and their functionaries in some of the advanced countries of the world are today visiting India to study the meticulous and foolproof functioning of the Election Commission of India and the conduct of multiple elections,  it is the Congress Party which is finding fault with the election mechanisms in a desperate bid to keep its flock together.
