NEW DELHI: Government is likely to come up with the rules pertaining to Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 by July this year.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed that the Committee on subordinate legislation for Lok Sabha has granted time till 9th April this year to frame rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 while the Rajya Sabha Committee has granted time till 9th July 2021.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 has been notified on 12th December 2019 and came into force with effect from 10th January last year.
The foreigners covered under this Amendment Act may submit applications for grant of Indian Citizenship after appropriate rules are notified by the Central Government.
