JAMMU: J&K Junior Wushu team excelled in 19th Junior National Wushu Championship and clinched runner-up trophy.
The championship was recently organised at different venues of Haryana and Chandigarh University. The Wushu team which brought laurels to J&K UT including Sadia Tariq, Sana Basharat, Vishal Chib, Ansha Chisti, Ayera Chisti, Muhammad Saleem Kumar, Ajmal Yousuf, Abdul Hameed, Shoaib Rather, Rajinder Singh, Ishant Singh, Goutam, Haqeek, Tanshiv, Akriti and Aman. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council felicitated the players and gave rousing welcome to both junior and senior teams for bringing runner-up trophy.
Interacting with the team members, the Secretary assured them all possible assistance to realise their dream by setting up of National Wushu Academy and Centre of Excellence each at Srinagar, Jammu and Samba districts, so that more and more athletes can be attracted towards this international sports. Nuzhat Gul also wished to Sadia, Saleem and Tariq to be named in the list of probables of Youth Asian Games, which is scheduled to be held in China later this year and announced that all the medallists will be enrolled in different National Centre of Excellence at SAI Bhopal, Itanagar and Manipur in view of upcoming Youth Asian Games and World Championship.
The contingent was accompanied by the J&K’s first Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach and CEO, Kuldeep Handoo, President J&K Wushu Association, Vijay Saraf and International medallist Rajinder Singh.
Divisional Sports Officer (J) Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer (K), Nuzhat Ara, Administrative Officer, J&K Sports Council Riyaz Ahmad and other officials of the Council were also present during the event.
