Army conducted a theme on Women Empower-ment at Vocational Training Centre (VTC) at Mandi in Poonch District (J&K). The aim of the subject was to lay emphasis on importance of spreading awareness about the “Women Empower-ment” campaign. Lack of proper education and vocational training has forced them to choose manual labor and other unyielding jobs to earn their livelihood. In such circumstances, an extra hand to support the family has a tremendous significance. Women are the core tenet of any society. However, due to social and religious restrictions, women in this region are uneducated and unemployed with minimal financial contribution. Keeping this in mind the Indian Army has launched a women empowerment campaign in this region under “SADHBHAVANA”. Women of this region, under this campaign, were introduced to various prospects of vocational training including Sewing, Embroidery, Designing, Stitching, Knitting and Cutting and Computers classes, the immense potential these vocational training posses in terms of enabling them to earn a livelihood by means of self-employment. The women who attended the event were highly motivated towards learning more of such vocational skills and thereby contribute towards uplifting the financial condition of their families.
