Mayor visits Animal Care Centre Roop Nagar

Amid nationwide lockdown in wake of Corona Virus outbreak, by adopting proper social distancing, Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu today visited Municipal Animal Care Centre, Roop Nagar and took stock of the facilities being provided to the animals in this Hospital. He was accompanied by Rekha Manhas, Councillor of Ward No: 62 (Roop Nagar area), Dr Susheel Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Ashwani Kumar, Executive Engineer, Deep Kumar, Assistant Executive Engineer of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Mayor was apprised by Dr. Susheel Sharma, MVO that this is a unique type of Centre in J&K where best medical treatment is being provided by well qualified and experienced veterinary doctors to the sick animals round the clock and in order to contain the menace of stray dogs, they are lifted by the field staff on routine basis from different wards of Jammu City, properly sterilized and after providing best feeding and vaccination to avoid the spread of any kind of rabies they are then relocated in the area where they have been lifted as per the guidelines of Government of India. He also apprised the Mayor that there is no proper drinking water facility in this centre for the doctors, staff members and animals kept there, require immediate repair and renovation work in the centre. Mayor directed the Engineering Wing to construct the ground water tank for drinking water along with water purifier, install proper floor titles in the whole complex, renovate the main entrance gate by doing paint as well as repair / construction of shed for keeping the animals, make catchy and beautiful paintings on the main walls of the centre, plant more and more saplings in and around the complex with beautiful pots and flower vessels in order to make the environment eco-friendly, repair the broken gratings and fixe new ones to avoid any type of mishappening and filling of staff members so that this hospital can be made a Model Municipal Animal Care Centre / Hospital in the J&K. Mayor along with councillor on this occasion provided feeding to the animals kept in the centre. He appealed to the citizens of Jammu city to cooperate with JMC and get their animals registered, also report for lifting any stray / sick animals from their locality at any time to Veterinary Wing who is doing its job for the welfare of general public as well as providing best facility / medical treatment to the stray / pet animals within the territorial limits of JMC.
