Even as efforts to fight the deadly Covid19 are underway, as many as 2700 kilograms of emergency supplies arrived at the Srinagar Airport through a special flight on Thursday. The supplies mostly comprising sterilising equipment to be used by Srinagar Municipal Corporation was airlifted in an Indian Air Force aircraft, AAI officials said. The official said that cargo team of AAI at Mumbai Airport sent emergency inventory of almost 2700 kilograms to Srinagar Municipal Corporation to fight COVID19. “The cargo included four imported sterilizing sprayer equipment required by Srinagar Municipal Corporation,” the official said. SMC Commissioner Gazanfar Ali said, “Two of the equipments procured are of 600 litre capacity while two others are of 200 litre capacity. These will help us in sanitisation of areas such as vast fields and roads. These sprayers have a reach of sanitising area upto 200 meters.” He said the imported machines have been recently used in Italy and China in the fight against Covid19 adding that this is first of its kind sanitising equipment to be used in Srinagar. Director Srinagar Airport, Santosh Dhoke, said the Air Force special cargo flight on Thursday also supplied protective clothing, N-95 masks and medicine for defence personnel. Dhoke said the Srinagar Airport was expecting more cargo supplies to be brought in by voluntary organisations and NGOs in days to come.
He said a few private airliners have also approached the Ministry of Civil Aviation to get an approval for supplying essential goods to the Valley.
