All the 78 persons who arrived at Srinagar Airport on 17 March from Leh and had been quarantined in a local hotel here were discharged on Tuesday, officials said. More than 250 persons including Bangladesh-returnee students kept in quarantine will go home on Wednesday after completing the necessary 14 day quarantine period. “They have completed quarantine period under protocol and were declared physically fit after being under medical observation since March 17,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary confirmed to Greater Kashmir on Tuesday evening. He informed that out of 78, 26 were students. Choudhary lauded all 78 persons discharged today for their cooperation and wit, having understanding of necessary protocol for the interest of society at large. “They have set an example for others who hide travel history. We provided them best facilities at quarantine home. Not a single complaint was received from them during their stay at designated home,” he said. Officers from civil and police administration were present when the persons were being sent back to their respective homes today morning. As these persons came out of the hotel, the policemen and other civil officers standing on either side of the walkway, maintaining social distance, gave a round of applause as a gesture of respect and encouragement for successful quarantine. “It is such a great experience that officers from civil and police administration stood for us to clap. It has given us sense and feeling that they stand with us and for us. It provided us sense that we have contributed and acted as responsible citizens,” said one of the persons who was discharged today.
