Psychological disorders like sense of insecurity, reactive depression, anxiety attacks and sleeplessness have suddenly increased among people due to pandemic coronavirus in Jammu. Even as the authorities claim to have made stringent arrangements to fight coronavirus, many people amid countrywide lockdown in Jammu have suddenly developed “reactive depression” and other psychological disorders. “There is a sharp rise in such cases where healthy middle aged people are complaining of not being able to breathe properly, or feeling ‘chocking sensation’ in throats, sleeplessness, anxiety, and worried about financial insecurity,” said psychiatric Dr Jagdish Thappa. Dr Thappa claimed that he was getting number of complaints about these psychological problems. “Stress has led to depression and anxiety. People are anxious. It is like epidemic of anxiety among people.” “There is a sharp rise in anxiety levels, reactive depression, uneasiness, and apprehensions among the people regarding the coronavirus,” he said. “New depression cases have surfaced in large numbers. Surprisingly, the already settled cases of depression have been reactivated and they have again gone into depression.” “Calls from Pirpanjal and Chenab Valley with people seeking suggestions and quarries about medicines have increased. People get most of medicines from Jammu City only, and they cannot get medicines from their home towns,” he said. Since people are in lockdown, he said, they are not able to come out to get the psychiatric medicines from Jammu. He said many people feel depressed about things like where to get the essential commodities from, their financial insecurity, their apprehensions about safety of their children studying outside J&K, etc.
