Acting tough against businessmen found violating restriction orders, the authorities on Tuesday sealed at least 41 shops, mostly eateries, garment and footwear shops in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag town. According to an official, the municipal council authorities and police found 41 shops open in the town since yesterday. “All these shops operating in violation of the restrictions imposed under section 144 CrPc were immediately sealed,” the official said. The action was initiated after the government ordered shopkeepers to close down the businesses to prevent spread of Covid-19. Chairman Municipal council Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah said none of the shops sealed were dealing with any essential commodities. “The sealed structures include restaurants, eateries, food joints, footwear shops, paint shops,” he said.The administration has been constantly making announcements, appealing people not to come out of their homes unnecessarily and adhere to the health guideline.Meanwhile, district Magistrate Anantnag has ordered suspension of three employees of the DC Office for not complying with directions of the administration to check spread of Covid-19 infection.“The employees didn’t adhere to the directions issued by the district magistrate to be adopted to check spread of the infection,” said another official.He said the district magistrate has instructed enquiry officer to present chargesheet against the delinquent officials immediately as part of the disciplinary action. “The employees engaged in Covid-19 duties should comply with the directions. Any dereliction of duties shall be dealt as per the Disaster Management Act in place,” the district magistrate warned.
