A committee of experts constituted by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to examine possibility of presence of Coronavirus in imported food items has opined the cooked meat including poultry was safe to eat. However, as a precautionary measure the consumers have been advised to avoid consumption of raw or un-cooked meat as well as unprocessed food products and follow good hygiene practices. Frozen food items must be consumed only after cooking them properly, said a statement. The food business operators have also been directed to adopt proper hygienic conditions in their respective establishments as laid down under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act-2006, failing which action as warranted under law shall be initiated against them.
