In its relentless efforts to raise global awareness about the significance of a healthy and clean environment, Army organised “Swachh Bharat Campaign” at Padhyarna, Sondar, Pinjrar, Cherji & Malar regions of Kishtwar district. The event was aimed towards developing sense of hygiene and sanitation in the remote areas and also to educate the locals about the benefits of cleanliness, prevention of various communicable diseases and epidemics due to unhealthy and unhygienic practices in day to day life. The locals were made aware about the nation wide cleanliness campaign being run by the govt under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and also about the importance of keeping the surrounding areas clean, thereby improving the health of the citizens. A lecture was also delivered highlighting the necessity of adopting adequate sanitary measures in daily life. Emphasis was also laid on construction and use of toilets and health hazards caused by open defecation. To develop sense of hygiene and sanitation in the region a play through Nukkad Natak was also held at Village-Chhatru. The play was to educate the students, youth and locals to accomplish the vision of a clean and serene Nation. Locals of the regions took a vow to implement these practices in their daily life and to start with, they pledged to throw garbages at nominated places and maintain their respective localities clean. The local populace and community leaders lauded the initiatives and expressed hope that such initiatives by the Army will give a fillip and aid in developing better future of the society.
