Guest Lecture on ‘Tool Development in Educational Research’ held at MIER

The Center for Educational Research (CER), MIER on Wednesday organised a guest lecture on the theme ‘Tool Development in Educational Research’. The Resource Person was Prof. C.P. Mathur, a renowned teacher educator and an expert in the field of research tool development and standardization. Dr. Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER presided over the lecture. Dr.Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER; Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, Prof N.R Sharma Dean Academics along with the HoDs of different departments, faculty and students of the PG Department attended the lecture. Prof Mathur traced the history of the development of psychological tests from Albert Binet’s intelligence test to current day tools. He comprehensively discussed the meaning of research and its importance in addition to focusing on the different aspects of education and psychology. Dr. Mathur explained with pragmatic examples different kinds of tools and their use namely batteries, paper-pencil test/inventories/questionnaires and projective tests. He deliberated on the criteria that need to be considered while developing a test such as objectives of the research, sample population, age group, language, time, norms, and resources. Dr. Mathur also discussed different kinds of reliability and validity which are used in the process of a test standardization process. Dr. Arun K Gupta in his presidential remarks said the primary purpose of the research is to inform action, to prove a theory, and contribute to developing knowledge in a field. Iteration is one of the keys to successful research and a researcher needs to continue with the process of research in order to add to the existing knowledge, he said and also emphasised the significance of professional ethics in conducting research and highlighted the importance of development and standardisation of research tools for gathering high quality data. Dr. Nishta Rana, Head CER and Dy. HoD PG Department MIER College presented the vote of thanks. Divya Rajput, a student of M.Ed. semester conducted the programme.
