Excise Department on Thursday foiled a liquor smuggling bid by seizing 29 cartons of illegal liquor at Toll Post Lakhanpur. According to reports, officials of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur detected a consignment of liquor containing 29 boxes (348 bottles of 750 ml each of IMFL) in a vehicle bearing Registration No PB06AT-9894, foiling an attempt of smuggling of liquor from outside State. Later, the vehicle along with seized liquor was handed over to the Excise & Taxation Officer, Excise Range Kathua for further action under provisions of the Excise Act. The whole operation was supervised by Pardeep Singh Manhas, who after his successful tenure as Joint Commissioner, JMC was recently transferred as Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and carried out by Excise and Taxation Officers Rohit Sharma, Sandeep Gupta, Abdul Rehman, Suresh Sharma and Aamir Aiyaz Rather along with team of Excise Inspector Dheeraj Kumar and Naresh Gupta, Sub-Inspectors Sheikh Firdous and Excise Guard Charan Dass. M. Raju, Excise Commissioner, J&K Government, while appreciating the team of Toll Post Lakhanpur for its sustained efforts to tackle the smugglers and criminals, has enjoined them to carry on their special drive to thwart the nefarious designs of all such smugglers in future also.
