Describing continuation of the present team of Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) under Rakesh Gupta in the office, as illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic, the Save Jammu Chamber Forum today appealed the Governor’s administration to intervene into the matter and ensure early, smooth and fair elections of the Jammu’s apex trade body. Talking to media persons here, convener of the Save Jammu Chamber Forum, Surinder Mohan, YV Sharma and Ramesh Gupta- both former JCCI presidents, Arun Sharma former secretary general JCCI and Rattan Lal Gupta, president Ware House Traders Federation said that term of the Jammu Chamber was expired in March 2019 and the new team should have been installed by first week of April, 2019. The present team of office bearers of JCCI led by Rakesh Gupta, extended their own term illegally and unconstitutionally in a `so called general meeting’ organised in December last in a hotel, who had no mandate as even the quorum was not complete in that meeting. The illegal ways and means were adopted by Rakesh Gupta and his team to continue in the Chamber office for the another term for their vested interests. It never happened in the history of Jammu Chamber so far. The Forum also strongly opposed the dismantling of the existing vacant structure of the Chamber House, at Rail Head Complex where this new team intends to open liquor bar under the garb of Business Club. The Forum members said that they have asked the present team to start the process of Chamber elections without any delay otherwise, the members including former presidents and other office bearers would oust the present team from the office of this apex body by adopting all possible means. They said the Forum may go for legal action in this regard if the administration failed to intervene int the matter. They said their only plea was to conduct Chamber elections in most fair and free manner without any more delay.
