External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar officially became a Member of Parliament on Friday by securing victory in the Rajya Sabha election held in Gujarat. Gujarat Bhartiya Janata Party OBC front leader Jugalji Thakor also emerged victorious in the bypolls Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat, which were held in the assembly premises in Gandhinagar on Friday. EAM S. Jaishankar secured 104 votes and BJP OBC front leader Jugalji Thakor secured 105, while Congress candidates Chandrika Chudasama and Gaurav Pandya managed to get 70 votes each. After securing Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat, Union External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the support. He said, “I want to thank everyone for support. Like I said during my nomination, External Affairs Minister and Gujarat have a natural partnership. There is no such country where there is no Gujarati. If prestige of India has increased internationally, Gujarat has a role in it.”
