The Jammu and Kashmir government now has realised the importance of places like Suchetgarh in R.S Pura and Chamliyal in Samba district as having potential of border tourism like Wagah border in Amritsar, Punjab. Should the people of Jammu say thanks to the government or not for this move? In fact recognition to these two places should have been given much-much before but it did not happened owing to the government’s policy of selectively favouring Kashmir.
Apart from these two places, there are number of other places in Jammu division which hold tourism importance but for the stereotype existing among the authorities concerned to exclusively promote Kashmir in every field even by ignoring merits, has made Jammu to suffer for years. Jammu division has beautiful places right from Lakhanpur to Banihal and from Poonch to Kishtwar.
Unfortunately Jammu region always lacked an efficient leadership which remained the root cause for this region to lag behind Kashmir in tourism promotion and other fields. It is also worthy to mention here that the delimitation of Constituencies has not been done in Jammu and Kashmir for long as it would give Jammu region more seats in Parliament and Assembly which may further lead to political strengthening of Jammu. Though much hue and cry has been raised over this regional discrimination which has badly victimized Jammu region, but it yielded no positive results. Even the elected public representatives from Jammu region prefer petty gains at the cost of regional welfare. Under such circumstances Jammu is waiting to see a strong, dedicated and visionary leader which may take the region out of this morass so that dawn of regional equality and progress breaks.
